Soil Moist is the greatest product for Rosemary, containers and any
other plants that suffer from moisture changes in pots. It is a polymer
granules product that absorbs moisture and then releases it back into
the soil when the plant needs it. 1/2 tsp. to a 4" pot. Perfect for
window boxes too! |
| Orrisroot - Iris germanica var. florentina
Known as the Florentine iris is a hardy iris with short stout
rhizomes. It makes an upright clump of sword shaped leaves 18 to 20
inches tall. Orrisroot blooms in early Spring before the hybrid Irises.
The flower stalks are 30 in. tall and usually holds 2-3 flowers per
stalk. The flowers are large and showy, silvery white with an iridescent
sheen and yellow beards. It is slightly fragrant. When mass planted I
can smell the fragrance just when the heat of the spring day expels;
just before dusk begins. Iris Florentine needs full sun in a well
drained soil and will tolerate hot dry weather when established. To use
the rhizomes as a fixative; peel, slice, dry and age for 2 years to
develop a violet like fragrance. The root becomes very hard when dried
so prepare well be drying. Orrisroot has the ability to take on other
essential oils and retain their fragrance for years. Growers suggest
using slug bait to protect it from slugs. (Just order a Copper
Garden Marker here for it! Copper repels slugs!) It's a
"green" way to garden. |
